Hey y'all, it's Rosie, and in this video,
we're going to make some good old southern style cabbage. It's going to be
really flavorful and easy because I'm making it in the slow cooker. So here are
the ingredients that you will need. I have three medium size ham hocks,
they are smoked. I don't know why they don't look smoked, but I assure you that
they were. Here are my onions and bell peppers. I'm using yellow onions but you
can use white. I'm going to slice up my green bell pepper. You can use any color,
but I got green because it was a cheapest at the store.
Now before I chopped up anything, I did wash all of my veggies.
And here you see
me chopping up the celery. So I placed my ham hocks into my slow cooker. I'm going
to make it rain with the vegetables. I have my onions, celery, bell pepper,
everything got chopped up is in there. And now I am going to start adding in my
minced garlic. Pour in some water – you don't need chicken broth or anything
like that because the ham hock is enough flavor. And if you're not following me,
please be sure to do so. I am on Instagram and Twitter – let's be friends,
get to know me a little better, so follow me on there. And now I'm going to let
this cook on high for four hours, okay. We want those ham hocks falling off the
bone, babies, so let it cook for four hours.
So meanwhile, we're going to prep
up our cabbage or just prep it. And I peel off the first layer because it's
always dirty, and I'm going to just chop up the cabbage. Now once it's nice and
chopped, I'm going to head over to my sink and I'm going to wash the cabbage.
Make sure you rinse it really good because you don't want no dirty cabbage,
and neither does anyone else so make sure you wash it really good. Now this is
four hours later, the ham hocks did fall off the bone. They're really nice and
tender. I am using a four-quart slow cooker, I believe. I'm going to start
adding in all my cabbage, and I actually managed to add or toss in all of the
cabbage at once. This was I think two and a half to three pounds. I'm going to
season my cabbage up with some ground black pepper, you can add some salt if
you want but again, the ham hock was enough saltiness for me.
I'm now going to
let this cook for an additional hour on high. So let that cook, and when it's done,
this is what it looks like. Really, really easy. Very flavorful, lots and lots of flavor going on there. And of course, you have
lots of broth that you could just dunk some cornbread right in, baby,
you are in business. So to serve this up, I'm just going to place it
in a nice sized serving bowl. You can certainly serve it right out of
your slow cooker, but this is how I'm going to have mine on my table, so I just
place it in my serving bowl. And then of course, you know I like to add color, so I
will add some parsley flakes, and that will be it! Thank you so much for watching, I truly appreciate it. Don't forget to
give this video a thumbs up if you haven't already.
